OUT WEST IS BEST

The West Side Of This Country Is My Favorite Place To Be – Here My Top Ten Reasons Why:

  1. The Sky: whether dark and gloomy, bright and sunny, stormy or cloudy – usually all of the above at once. One thing is sure: it reminds you how small and insignificant one person can be.

  2. The grasslands: The prairie part of the US might seem boring – mainly because it is so vast. But looking closer, you begin to notice details: Pronghorn antelopes with their offspring. Fields of sunflowers bobbing in the wind. An old homestead up on the hill, surrounded by big, wind-torn trees. Miles and miles of fences. A few random cows sprinkled amongst the wavy grass patches of all shades of green.
If you ever feel claustrophobic – this place is the antidote for you.
  3. The Water: Life-force of everthing, water plays a center-stage role in everything out west. Reservoirs for keeping huge metropolitan cities green, or puddles for the cows to slurp out of on hot summer days. My favorite feature of any watery spot out west: it reflects the sky (see 1. above)
  4. The People: nowhere else in the USA will you find this mix of outdoorsy, politically interested, technology oriented, healthy living, open-minded people from all around the world – seemingly all getting along quite well. And, colorful people they are, too…I love just talking with people at the next table – always something to learn or share (yes, people elsewhere are lovely as well – but out West has my heart)…
  5. The Food: yes, twice. Try Rock Inn in Estes Park, Colorado.Or the Thai Kitchen. Yep, you are welcome again.

  6. The Mountains: You knew this already. But did you realize THIS is what you have been missing:

  7. The Wildlife: Encounters of the wild sort seem to be the daily standard:
  1.
  2. The Festivals: the West does it best. People come to support whatever the cultural events can throw at them. Great fun!
  3. It Is Home: After spending 12 years in the Frontrange of Colorado, and after being gone for just as long, it still feels like home to me.
  4.  Inspiring, uplifting, and sunny skies – it makes a pretty good case for being out West at least once a year with my Sheep Incognito flock….

Digital Painting – Traditional Method, New Media, New Trend?

Digital Painting – Traditional Method, New Media

Source: (1) a digital landscape I’ve been working on lately… – Charisma-Art.com Presents The Art of Conni Togel

As part of my new line of art experience, I have been creating digital paintings on my ipad.
Using the same techniques I use on my original oil and acrylic paintings, these originals are all created using digital paint brushes within the painting applications on my ipad. I use the same pallet colors I would use in my studio, and I customize the digital brushes to make them “scrubby” looking like my worn out brushes in my studio are.
The process takes about the same time as my oil paintings take – but with the advantage of no drying time, no poisonous fumes to breath, no mess, total scaleability, total portability, vibrant colors without muddiness, and, well, I can paint in the car, in the kitchen, in bed, wherever. Huge bonus.

Once the digital painting is output onto canvas (I use archival quality inks and substrates that are warrantied for up to 200 years of lightfastness!), each painting is hand-embellished with highlights of real world brush strokes of acrylic paint (same colors that I used in the digital painting!). This adds a bit of texture that catches the light.

So – here is my question to you, dear reader:

Is this new media thing something that needs to fade into the wood (or plastic) work? Is this something that will continue to grow the art world into a new trend?

REVAMPING

Art is never permanent…so even some of my “finished” paintings sometimes aquire new life.

This is an older landscape I painted, that needs some fresh air and paint.

It’s 24″ x 48″, oils on canvas – quite a large piece.

Just A Tree – It Looks Boring

I am adding more trees with color, more texture on the tree, and will be changing the sky to something happier…
